A 72-year-old man who stabbed his ex-wife in a Shropshire town has been given a hospital order.

Leonard Parton, of Upper Galdeford in Ludlow, was earlier found guilty of causing the injuries to Rosemary Parton in Church Stretton in May.

Judge Robin Onions at Shrewsbury Crown Court had previously ruled that Parton was unfit to plead to a charge of attempted murder.

He will now be detained indefinitely under the 1983 Mental Health Act.

Rosemary Parton, who is in her 60s, suffered serious neck, face and shoulder injuries in the incident at Sandford Avenue on 19 May.
