Oswestry man 'died of burglary injuries'

An 87-year-old man died after he was beaten by burglars who broke into his Oswestry house, a court has heard.

Charles Green, of Ambleside Road, died in the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital on 2 June, a month after the burglary.

He had suffered head, hip and arm injuries.

Daniel Keeble, 26, of no fixed abode, and 24-year-old Peter John Marston, of Stafford, both deny manslaughter, at Stafford Crown Court.

Both men have also pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault with an attempt to rob, while Mr Marston also faces a separate charge of burglary.

The prosecution told the court that Mr Green had died as a result of the injuries sustained during the incident.

The jury was also shown video evidence filmed by officers on head-mounted cameras when they first found Mr Green after he had made the 999 call.

The trial continues.
