The Burwarton Show cancelled due to "extreme weather."

A Shropshire one-day agricultural show has been cancelled due to "extreme weather", said organisers.

The Burwarton Show, in the village of Cleobury North, was due to take place on the 2 August.

Organisers unanimously agreed to cancel this year's show because of safety concerns over "treacherous" ground conditions.

Richard Yates, show chairman said it was a "very sad" decision to close the show.

"We're so uncertain about the future with the forecast that it was time to pull the plug rather than investing money on a show we're very unlikely to hold," he said.

The show began in 1891 and regularly attracts thousands of visitors.

Organisers said they would be in contact with those involved with running of the show within the next week.
