The number of stall holders at a Shropshire market has more than doubled in three months.

Eighty-five traders currently have pitches at the Wednesday street market in Market Drayton, up from 38 in May, according to the company running it.

LSD Promotions took over the management of the Cheshire Street market in May.

Traders there are putting its success down to "better advertising" and a "more vibrant" atmosphere.

Shropshire Council, which used to run the market, invited tenders to take it on in early 2012.

Roger Hughes, councillor for Market Drayton West, said: "It was basically going nowhere, it was slowly declining.

"The markets are very important to market towns, they bring people in, they bring shoppers in who wouldn't normally be there."
