Drivers are being warned of potential delays as repair work gets under way on a Shrewsbury bridge.

Network Rail is due to start refurbishing the Castle Foregate railway bridge on 1 October.

The project is expected to involve cosmetic rather than major structural work, Network Rail said.

The four-week scheme will see part closures of the road below, which provides access to the town centre from the north.

Shropshire Council said the closures would be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and warned of delays, particularly during peak hours.

The work is being completed alongside the council's own £1m northern gateway regeneration project, in the same area, which was started last week.
