Dog bite baby death: Harry Harper inquest opens
An inquest into the death of a newborn baby who was bitten by a dog last week has been opened.
Harry Harper, who was just eight days old, died in hospital after being bitten by his grandparents' dog in Ketley, Telford.
A post mortem test revealed he died as a result of a significant head injury.
Telford and Wrekin Coroner John Ellery adjourned the inquest until February after a brief hearing at Wellington police station.
Further tests are due to be carried out.
Telford Police said inquiries would continue for some time but have said they believe what happened was a "tragic accident".
The inquest heard Harry was pronounced dead by a consultant paediatrician at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital shortly before 09:30 GMT last Tuesday, 20 November.
The dog which bit Harry, a Jack Russell, has been destroyed.
