A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in Shropshire.

The man was found with serious head injuries at a flat in The Oval, Market Drayton, at 19:00 GMT on Wednesday.

The victim, named by police as Simon Marcus Hurley, 47, later died at North Staffordshire University Hospital.

A 40-year-old woman has been given police bail while inquiries continue, the West Mercia force said.

Mr Hurley, who also used the name Simon Hamilton, came from Red Barn Road and officers said they were trying to establish his movements before he arrived at The Oval.

Det Ch Insp Gary Watson said: "In particular, I am appealing to anyone who either saw or had contact with him during Wednesday.

"I would also appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of 20a The Oval between about 16:00 and 19:00 GMT on Wednesday to contact the police."

Det Ch Insp Watson said information had been received about a dark-coloured 4x4 vehicle seen near The Oval at around 16:45 GMT on Wednesday and urged the driver to come forward.
