Snow has caused disruption to roads and led to the closure of 15 schools in Shropshire.

West Mercia Police closed the A488 between the B4368 junction in Clun and the A4113 in Knighton because of drifting snow.

The B5063 in Shawbury was also partially blocked because of hazardous driving conditions, the force said.

Thursday's horse racing meeting at Ludlow is subject to an inspection on Tuesday because of snow on the course.

'Hefty wind chill'

The clerk of the course, Bob Davies, said he was not hopeful of the course passing the inspection.

Mr Davies said: "If the forecast is right we've got next to no chance.

"We couldn't race at the moment - we've got three inches of snow. You need rain to shift it and there's no rain forecast.

"The temperatures are to stay below freezing and there's a fairly hefty wind chill."

Telford and Wrekin Council said it would attempt to collect rubbish and recycling waste as usual but warned it may not be possible on side roads.

Acton Scott Historic Working Farm near Church Stretton had been due to open for the new season on Tuesday.

It said due to the hazardous weather conditions it had delayed opening until Wednesday at the earliest.

The Met Office said conditions were likely to remain dry but the odd light sleet or snow shower was possible in the north of the county.
