A specialist underwater search team has been brought in to help in the hunt for a missing Shropshire man.

Daniel Hodgin, 20, from Madeley, was last seen in the early hours of 23 November, after a night out at The Buttermarket nightclub in Shrewsbury.

Hundreds of volunteers joined the search last weekend, police said.

Divers from Nottinghamshire Police have arrived in the town and a section of the River Severn near the weir has been cordoned off.

Specialist teams from Dyfed-Powys Police are also involved.

Mr Hodgin is described as about 5ft 9in (1.75m) with short spiked brown hair and stubble. He was wearing a grey Police polo shirt with dark blue jeans and black boots when he went missing.

Ch Insp Tom Harding, from West Mercia Police, said officers were becoming "increasingly concerned" for Mr Hodgin.

Along with dog teams and a police helicopter, surface search and rescue teams have spent the last week checking the river.

One boat operated by West Midlands Search and Rescue was damaged beyond repair last weekend during the search, although an appeal raised more than £1,500 within 24 hours to buy a replacement.
