Woman dies after A39 tanker collision near Street

A woman has died after the car she was driving collided with a fuel tanker in Somerset.

Emergency services were called to the A39 at Walton, near Street, following reports of the accident on Friday afternoon.

She was taken to hospital by air ambulance, but died shortly after arriving.

The driver of the tanker was unhurt and his load of kerosene was not spilled on to the road.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision which happened at 1410 BST, on 10 September, is asked to contact police.

"The road is expected to be closed for some time," a force spokesman said.

Traffic in the area was reported to be heavy and police were urging motorists to find an alternative route.
