Woman is rescued from River Avon in Bath

A woman in her 20s has been rescued from the River Avon in Bath.

All three emergency services were called to a section of the river near Pines Way in the early hours of Sunday.

An Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said a water search team and the police helicopter were used in the search for the woman.

"Luckily, the woman remained conscious throughout the rescue as the current took her further downstream," he said.

"The victim was quickly located and she was helped out of the water by firefighters before being handed over to paramedics for treatment," he said.

"It is not known how she came to be in the water."
