New Portishead library prepares for opening

Portishead's library is to close its doors at the end of the week ahead of a move to new premises.

The new building in Harbour Road opens on 12 April and is more than double the size of its current High Street site.

A North Somerset Council spokeswoman said the town had expanded dramatically over the past 10 years and the new library was desperately needed.

"At a time when other councils are closing libraries we are investing in them," she said.

The new site on the ground floor of Horatio House will also see an increase in opening hours.
