Smoker in Somerset fined for breaching ban at work

A man in Somerset has been prosecuted for breaching the smoking ban while at work.

Barry Carter of Upper Kewstoke Road, Weston, was found guilty of smoking in a van belonging to his former employers, Chalmers Bros Ltd of Wells.

He was fined £200 at Frome Magistrates Court and told to pay £200 in costs.

The Health Act 2006 came into force in July 2007 and over the past eight months 19 fixed penalty notices have been served by Mendip District Council.
