New relationship counselling service set up in Somerset

A group of counsellors who worked for relationship charity Relate in Somerset have set up a new counselling service.

Earlier in April, it was announced that Relate was closing all of its branches in the county due to financial problems.

The group of former staff have now set up a new organisation called Relationship Somerset.

They said they plan to offer family, financial and sex counselling, and that the service would be cheaper.

Maureen Lawrence, from Relationship Somerset, said the new service would have lower overheads.

"Under Relate the starting point was £48 which was quite a lot for some people," she said.

"Our starting point is £35 so we aim to be affordable and accessible. We will always negotiate with people for what they can afford for ongoing sessions."
