Weston-super-Mare attack leaves man seriously hurt

A man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was attacked in Weston-super-Mare.

The 35-year-old had been walking with his partner along Knightstone Road at about 0318 BST on Sunday when they were approached by three men.

He suffered a serious head injury in the attack and is being treated at Bristol's Frenchay Hospital.

Avon and Somerset Police said the assault appeared to have been unprovoked.

Det Isp Erica Last said: "This was an isolated incident in which a man has received a serious head injury in what appears to be an unprovoked attack. We are now working to identify those involved.

"We believe that there were a group of three men on Knightstone Road at the time of the incident and they may have information that could help us with our enquiries.

"I would urge the members of that group to come forward and speak to us as a matter of urgency.

"Incidents like this are very rare in Weston-super-Mare and I would like to re-assure the community we are doing all we can to locate those responsible and bring them justice."
