Taunton primary school in special measures

A primary school in Taunton has been put in special measures.

Wellsprings Primary School was deemed to have attainment levels lower than average, according to Ofsted.

Its inspectors were positive about the behaviour and attitude of pupils but said the learning needs of more able pupils were not well catered for.

An additional head teacher has been drafted in to help the school which hopes to be back on track by summer 2012.

Wellsprings Primary School head teacher Mark Lunn, said: "Since the inspection, we believe the school has already begun to make progress towards addressing the issues raised by the inspectors."

He added he was confident the school would be out of special measures within the two-year time frame.

Somerset County Council said Jenny Venning, head teacher at Hugh Sexey's Middle School in Wedmore, was an accredited National Leader of Education and would help to resolve the issues.
