A Somerset scout leader has pleaded not guilty to a string of child sex abuse offences.

David Burland, 53, of Ramsay Way in Burnham-on-Sea, appeared at Taunton Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

He was charged with 14 counts of sexual assault, 12 indecent assaults, six counts of inciting sexual activity and one count of indecent exposure.

He had been the leader of the First Burnham Scout Group. The Scout Association said he had been dismissed.

The case was referred to Taunton Crown Court on June 30.
