Chard engineering firm fined after forklift injury
A Somerset engineering firm has been fined after a worker was injured when a forklift truck tipped over on him.
Mark Connett, 36, suffered a fractured knee and ankle when his leg became pinned under angle irons at Metaltech Precision Ltd, Chard Junction.
Inquiries found the forklift extension used had not been properly tested.
The company admitted breaching Health and Safety legislation and was fined £5,000 with £4,940 costs Yeovil Magistrates' Court.
HSE inspector, Kate Leftly, said after the hearing: "The load Mr Connett and his colleagues were working with was large and heavy, but despite this, the lifting operation was not properly controlled and there was no planned safe system of work."
