Weston-super-Mare dog walkers urged to heed beach ban

More than 50 dog walkers were ordered to take their pets off Weston-super-Mare beach in the first few days of the resort's annual summer ban.

The beach between the Grand Pier and Royal Sands is off limits to dogs from 1 May to 30 September.

North Somerset Council urged people to heed the restrictions to help keep the beach "a pleasant place to use".

The authority has also installed extra bins along the seafront for dog waste and litter.

A year-round ban on walking dogs on the beach was lifted four years ago, after a series of protests by dog owners.
