Solar panel farms in Somerset approved by Sedgemoor

Three giant solar farms are to be built in an area of Somerset after Sedgemoor District Council granted planning permission for the plans.

The first, at Summerway Drove in Bridgwater, is a 26-acre (11 hectares) site with nearly 20,000 solar panels.

The second one is a 38-acre (15 hectares) area on Westonzoyland Road which could have up to 75,000 panels.

The third is by the Royal Ordnance Factory Site in Puriton which will cover 31 acres (13 hectares).

That one could have up to 25,000 solar panels.

To qualify for government subsidies all sites will need to be generating electricity by 1 August.
