Yeovil MP David Laws completes week-long suspension

Yeovil MP David Laws has described his seven-day suspension from parliament as a "valuable week".

He made a series of visits to local schools, hospitals, businesses and charities in his constituency.

A parliamentary committee ruled in May he should apologise to the House of Commons and be suspended for seven days. The suspension began on 7 June.

Mr Laws admitted wrongly claiming £40,000 in expenses for rent paid to his partner.

The Liberal Democrat MP said he did it to keep his sexuality secret, and has since repaid the money.

He is due to return to work on Thursday.
