Cricketer suffers heart attack at East Harptree match

A cricketer has been taken to hospital after he suffered a heart attack and went into cardiac arrest on Sunday.

An ambulance spokesman said the batsman, in his 40s, was back in the pavilion at East Harptree, Somerset after an innings when he fell ill.

A doctor in one of the teams administered CPR and paramedics were called, the spokesman said.

They administered several electric shocks with a defibrillator, restoring his heartbeat.

The man was taken to the Bristol Heart Institute where he underwent surgery.
