Taunton crash: Driver admits killing Amy Hofmeister, 13

A man has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a 13-year-old cyclist by dangerous driving.

Amy Hofmeister was killed on 15 June in Taunton, Somerset, when Leonard Jones's car hit her and her bike.

Jones, 41, from Mulberry Close, Taunton, admitted at the town's crown court to causing death by dangerous driving. He also admitted driving with no licence and no insurance.

He is due to be sentenced at a later date.

Two other people who were also arrested in connection with the crash, remain on police bail pending further inquiries.

Avon and Somerset Police sealed off the roundabout where Blackbrook Way intersects with Chestnut Drive and Lisieux Way following the crash while the incident was investigated.

Amy had been a pupil at Bishop Fox's Community School in Taunton.

Hundreds of people attended her funeral at Taunton Deane Crematorium on Monday.

Since her death, more than 1,500 people have joined a Facebook group set up in Amy's memory.
