Interest shown for more community stations in Somerset

At least three bids have been submitted to Ofcom to set up a community station in the Taunton Deane area.

The applications have been made to the communications watchdog Ofcom and the deadline for licence bids is 21 July.

Community radio stations run on a not-for-profit basis and normally cover a geographical radius of up to 5km.

The licence normally runs for five years but can be extended for another five. The successful bid is expected to be announced in early Autumn.
