Four people have been arrested after a man was shot dead on a street in Bristol in the early hours of Sunday.

Rico Gordon, 21, from London, was shot at about 0410 BST near the Coach House pub in Stapleton Road, Easton.

A man, 23, and a woman, 19, who were also injured are now in a stable condition at Bristol Royal Infirmary.

A 23-year-old man was arrested earlier on Sunday and three men aged 19, 16 and 20 were arrested overnight.

The Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said the men, who are currently in police custody, were not believed to be from the Bristol area.

Stapleton Road was closed at the scene of the shooting and reopened on Monday morning.

'Worrying time'

The force spokesman said letters had been sent to residents about the progress of the investigation, and patrols had increased in the area.

Det Supt Sue Scott, who is leading the investigation, said: "We know that this is a worrying time for residents in Easton and we've been working hard in the area to provide reassurance and keep people informed.

"We'd like to thank residents and businesses in the area for their patience as we know the investigation has caused disruption to people who live and work there."

Det Supt Scott said there was nothing to suggest a link between the shooting and two stabbings in the area last week.

She added that she was not aware of any link to the St Paul's Carnival, which took place nearby on Saturday and was attended by tens of thousands of people.

The force is appealing for witnesses.
