Flock of 70 sheep stolen from field in Somerset

A flock of sheep has been stolen from a field in Somerset.

Gates were forced open and 70 sheep were taken from a field next to the A303 in the Drayton area near South Petherton overnight on Thursday.

Police believe the theft was carried out by a group of people who had access to a 4x4 vehicle and a small cattle lorry and would have taken some time.

Insurance firm NFU Mutual said in May that it had seen a steep rise nationally in claims for sheep theft.
