A man who is believed to have fallen from an upstairs window has been arrested over the discovery of his partner's body in North Somerset.

Emergency services were called to an address in Crookes Lane, Kewstoke, near Weston-super-Mare, on Tuesday.

The body was found in the property, which is next to the Royal Oak stores.

The man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Another man in his 40s, who was arrested at the scene, was released without charge.

'Open mind'

Reporting from the village, the BBC's Clinton Rogers said the dead woman had been named locally as Julie Tottle and that locals said the arrested man was her partner.

Avon and Somerset Police, who have not yet named the woman, said the injured man either fell or jumped from an upstairs window.

He was in a stable condition at Bristol's Frenchay Hospital but had life-changing injuries, the force spokesman said.

A post-mortem examination is being carried out to confirm the woman's cause of death.

Det Ch Insp Phil Jones, who is leading the investigation, said: "We are keeping an open mind but treating the death as suspicious.

"Investigations are continuing to piece together exactly what happened, leading up to the death of the woman.

"We are continuing to carry out a comprehensive forensic search of the scene, which is likely to continue over the next two days and would urge the local community to remain patient."
