A bomb disposal team was called after a member of the public took a World War I bomb he dug up in his garden to a Somerset coastguard station.

A police spokesman said the Burnham-on-Sea coastguard had called officers to the scene at about 19:10 BST on Wednesday.

He said the Royal Logistics Corps bomb disposal team found the mortar bomb was empty and posed no danger.

The team took the device away, the spokesman added.
