Knightstone Harbour rescue after mobile phone lights seen

Two people were rescued from a Somerset beach after attracting the emergency services with lights on their phones.

The man and woman called the coastguard at about 20:40 BST on Tuesday after getting stuck in the mud with the tide coming in at Knightstone Harbour.

A team on a hovercraft searched the area and located the pair in the mud after lights from their mobile phones were spotted.

Both were tired and taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

HMS Coastguard said it had received a further report that another two people had got into trouble on the same stretch of coast near Weston-Super-Mare, but following a comprehensive search no one was found.
