South Somerset council to install solar panels

Solar panels are being installed at South Somerset District Council's offices in Yeovil.

Council leaders hope the £105,000 investment will save £9,500 a year on electricity costs for the Brympton Way centre.

The panels should produce 7% of the electricity needed for the buildings and there could also be extra green rebates from the government.

The council said any money saved would be "put back into frontline services".

Councillor Henry Hobhouse said the council would only invest in devices which had a "proven cost saving" record and a "short payback time".
