Fire at Slab House Inn near Wells 'deliberately set'

A fire in a disused pub near Wells was started deliberately, fire investigators believe.

Emergency services were called to the old Slab House Inn on Bath Road, Haydon, in the early hours of Wednesday.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said when crews arrived, the roof was "well alight".

"Four fire engines and an aerial platform helped bring the blaze under control," he said.

"One relief crew from Glastonbury remain on site damping down," the service spokesman added.
