Gas leak forces flats evacuation in Bridgwater

Twenty flats in Somerset have been evacuated overnight after a gas leak.

It was caused after a bin fire in Duke Street, Bridgwater at around 02:00 BST.

The fire damaged a gas meter which led to gas leaking into nearby homes. Devon and Somerset Fire Service said the cause of the fire was unknown.

The buildings were evacuated and residents are now staying with family and friends. Fire crews and utility companies are still trying to repair the leak.
