Two boys have been rescued from the Bristol Channel after getting stuck in mud off Portishead.

A large operation involving the coastguard, fire service and police was launched before 21:00 BST on Friday to reach the 11- and 12- year-old boys.

It was initially feared they could be swept out to sea but both boys were rescued and said to be safe and well.

It is believed they got into difficulty while playing in the mud near Battery Point.
