Missing double yellow lines which a sea rescue team said was delaying their launches because cars were blocking their path have been repainted.

Burnham-On-Sea Area Rescue Boat (BARB) said after the South Esplanade was resurfaced in September, the council failed to repaint the yellow lines.

BARB said "vital minutes" were wasted when vehicles parked in front of the coastguard and hovercraft stations.

Somerset County Council said the lines were now "back in place".

BARB said the parked cars prevented the life-saving coastguard trucks and hovercrafts from leaving.

The county council said the mistake was due to "human error" and a "breakdown in communication between the contractor and sub-contractor".

It added it was "disappointed" that anyone would consider parking outside the rescue station, which it said "clearly indicates that it is an emergency service".
