Bath Abbey's Africa appeal receives anonymous £50,000 donation
Bath Abbey has received an anonymous donation of £50,000 to help its East African famine appeal.
The money has now boosted the Abbey's appeal for the Marsabit Diocese in Kenya to £62,500 and will help buy lorries and food to aid people there.
A cheque was posted in an envelope with an accompanying letter through the letterbox of Bath Abbey Rectory.
The Abbey's Rector, Prebendary Edward Mason, said: "Wonderful things have happened on the back of this gift."
He added: "It has encouraged further giving and major charitable donations. Food has been bought, trucks hired and communities fed."
The donor, who wished to remain anonymous, wrote in the letter accompanying the cheque: "God wanted me to make a special effort to support the campaign."
