Artist Damien Hirst has designed a Somerset cider brandy label and box 10 years after being asked to do so by fashion designer Alice Temperley.

The deal was struck when she was a fashion student - a favour which she recently called in for her father.

Her father, cider brandy maker Julian Temperley, said: "This is a huge gift from him. He is a very good fellow."

The design celebrates the drink winning Protected Geographical Status from the European Union last month.

'It is brilliant'

The label and box have been designed for a limited edition of 20-year-old Somerset Cider Brandy and incorporate a splash of colours.

"It is brilliant, it actually works as a celebration of victory," said Mr Temperley.

Alice Temperley, 36, is a fashion designer whose clothes have been worn by actresses Demi Moore, Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Lopez.

Hirst, who lives in Devon, made his name as an artist after dissecting and preserving animals in formaldehyde.

The Somerset Cider Brandy Company is a 25-year-old company based at Burrow Hill Farm near Kingsbury Episcopy.
