Victoria Bridge in Bath to be strapped up for safety
A dangerous footbridge in Bath will be strapped up temporarily as engineers work to make the structure safe.
Victoria Bridge was inspected last week and concern over further deterioration led British Waterways to close the River Avon below to boats.
Now straps will be used to strengthen the structure and address the immediate fears about the bridge's safety.
Bath and North East Somerset Council (BANES), which owns the bridge, is inspecting the structure each week.
The 19th Century footbridge was closed to pedestrians in October 2010 in the interests of public safety.
Since then BANES has been liaising with English Heritage about plans to permanently restore the structure and reopen it to the public.
