A 79-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of his wife who died at their home in Somerset.

Malcolm Beardon, of Churchfields, Wellington, previously denied murdering his wife Margaret, 78, on 15 July.

The plea was accepted by the prosecution on the grounds that Beardon had lost control after many years of caring for his wife.

The case was adjourned to allow for pre-sentence reports to be compiled. He will be sentenced in January.
