Four people were taken to hospital after a fire in a holiday village in Somerset.

The fire destroyed three chalets at the Brean Sands Holiday Village, near Weston-super-Mare, on Monday.

Six fire engines from Burnham and Avon attended the scene after being called out at about 02:14 GMT.

Four people were taken to Weston General Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. A fifth was treated at the scene by paramedics.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said chalets adjoining those destroyed had also been damaged by the heat.

Pete Golding, the fire incident commander, said: "We've got fire investigation teams coming back later in the day to find out the cause, but at the moment it's not being dealt with as a deliberate fire it's believed to be accidental."
