War medals dating from the mid-19th Century are to return to Yeovil after 30 years.

They were presented to Yeovil-born Sir Charles Knight Pearson, who served in the Crimea and the Anglo-Zulu War.

The medals were left to Yeovil in 1979 but were deemed so important they were sent to military museums around the country, before ending up at the National Army Museum in London.

They went on display in the county for the first time at the Somerset Rural Life Museum in Glastonbury as part of the Somerset Routes exhibition, which runs until 2 March.

They will then be sent to Yeovil following a request from South Somerset District Council's heritage team.

Those who want to see them can do so by appointment at the Community Heritage Access Centre at Lufton, Yeovil, by calling 01935 462855 or emailing
