Horse riders in Exmoor asked to help police

Horse riders in Exmoor are being asked to join a new police project which aims to reduce crime in rural areas.

Volunteers will wear fluorescent jackets and keep an eye out for suspicious activity.

The scheme is similar to Neighbourhood Watch and those taking part would not have any police powers.

PC Nick Wood said: "It's about being visible and being a good witness and being able to record that evidence to pass on to me or the constabulary."

He said they would watch areas police find hard to access.

"All we're asking is to don a fluorescent jacket to say you're a civilian volunteer, and that you're aware of police priorities in your area."
