Olympic Torch threat man given conditional discharge

A man who threatened to blow up his camper van to disrupt the Olympic Torch relay through Somerset has been given a conditional discharge.

Darren Cole, 40, of no fixed address, admitted making the threat in a phone call to The Sun newspaper on 20 May.

He told a reporter he intended to blow up his van in Taunton town centre before the relay, magistrates heard.

Cole was conditionally discharged for one year, on one count of making a threat to damage or destroy property.

His lawyer told an earlier hearing he never intended to go through with the threat.
