Police in Somerset are appealing for witnesses after a 20ft (6m) straw man was destroyed in a fire.

The giant figure had been erected in a field opposite the North Perrot Farm Shop near Crewkerne, two weeks ago.

Made out of round straw bales, the figure was designed by the eight-year-old niece of the farm shop owner to promote an annual apple day event.

Avon and Somerset Police said it was set on fire and destroyed on the night of Thursday 4, October.
