A police inquiries desk has opened at Weston-super-Mare Town Hall as part of a "central hub" for public services.

North Somerset Council's housing and council tax services are already based there, together with the town library.

Ch Supt Julian Moss said: "Town hall staff will deal with most inquiries - reporting a crime, a road traffic collision - and if a police officer is required then one will be called in."

The police station will be kept open to house other police departments.

Avon and Somerset Police have asked people to use the hub as a first point of contact.

In Clevedon, the police station has moved to Castlewood at North Somerset Council headquarters.
