Royal Marines Association set up in Taunton

A new Royal Marines Association has been set up in Taunton.

Despite Somerset's county town being close to Norton Manor Camp - the home of 40 Commando - it has never had a group.

The association will help Royal Marines stay in touch and will raise funds for veterans and their families.

William Harris, one of two former Royal Marines behind the group, said he would like to see some younger members but realises it is hard for them to commit.

Mr Harris, who set up the group with Pete Reading, said: "Why is it we've gone so long in the county town, bearing in mind that we are adjacent to 40 Commando at Norton, without a branch of the Royal Marines Association?

"We stuck our heads together and we said 'right, we will put something in motion'."

He said they now met every other Tuesday.
