Somerset coast hit by tidal surge and high winds

3 January 2014 Last updated at 21:54 GMT

On the Somerset coast a number of flood warnings were in place as high winds and a tidal surge threatened properties.

In Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon debris was cleared from roads after high tides.

Inland on the Somerset Levels RSPCA officers carried out a large-scale rescue of cattle and horses from a flooded farm.

Across much of the county there were reports of large hailstones falling.
