A popular green space in the centre of Bath is to have a £100,000 revamp to make it safer for pedestrians.

Bath and North East Somerset Council will restore internal paths, re-opening the east and west gateways on Queen Square and put in new traffic islands.

Councillor David Dixon, said: "It is Bath's biggest roundabout and unfortunately we have traffic that goes round Queen's Square on all sides."

The square will be closed for six weeks and will re-open by Christmas.

The boules squares, where tournaments are held, will be restored and mature trees edging the square will be pruned to allow more sunlight on to the lawns.
