Weston-super-Mare sand sculpture festival future uncertain
The future of Weston-super-Mare's annual sand sculpture festival is uncertain without sponsorship, organisers have said.
The event costs about £30,000 to set up with some 5,000 tonnes of sand brought to the beach ready for the event.
Organisers want a permanent site with better security, an education area and a full-time sculptor on site.
North Somerset Council leader Nigel Ashton said it was a "fantastic draw" and has agreed to meet with organisers.
This year's sculptures, created by 20 international artists, were on the theme Once Upon a Time and included works from The Hunger Games and The Hobbit.
