Police want to trace a Somerset taxi driver who they believe picked up an elderly woman who has been missing for two days.

Ann Grisman, 80, from Hereford, was last seen in Wellington on Friday at 17:30 GMT after shopping in Taunton.

Police said Ms Grisman may have shared a taxi from Taunton with three other people after problems with the buses.

Officers want to speak to the man who drove a "Eurocab" London-style black taxi and had a foreign accent.

Police said Ms Grisman and three others decided to share a taxi from Taunton bus station to Wellington.

'Confused'

It is then thought to have dropped all four passengers at the Waitrose car park at about 17:30 GMT on Friday.

A force spokesman said "inquiries suggested" Ms Grisman may have then become confused and got back into the vehicle.

They believe the taxi had an illuminated orange sign at the front and the driver may have been wearing a green coat or jacket.

Avon and Somerset Police said officers would also like to speak to the other passengers.

A police spokesman said Ms Grisman visited relatives in Wellington "on a regular basis" and often made the trip to Taunton to go shopping.

He added the family were especially concerned as she had recently suffered memory losses.

Police said Ms Grisman wears glasses and was wearing a red coat and carrying a red handbag.

They also asked people living in the Taunton and Wellington areas to check garden outbuildings, sheds and garages.
