A furniture warehouse in a Somerset town has been badly damaged by fire.

Crews were called to Derham's Removals in East Street, Chard at 20:17 GMT on Thursday. A 200-metre cordon was set up as there were gas cylinders inside the premises.

About 28 people were advised to leave their homes. Those without alternative accommodation were put up in a hotel paid for by the district council.

The building's owner was treated for burns to his hands.

He was later discharged from hospital.

Devon and Somerset Fire Rescue said an investigation into the cause of the fire was under way.

South Somerset District Council said residents affected by the fire would be able to return to their properties later.
